ORLANDO-Locally based Epoch Properties Inc. and Florida Capital, joint owners and developers of Calypso Cay Resort, are going with Interstate Hotels & Resorts of Washington, DC to manage three hotels and provide selected services for timeshare units and apartments at the suburban Kissimmee, FL development near Walt Disney World. The value and length of the contract wasn’t disclosed.

“Interstate’s experience with complex resorts was a big plus in our search for an appropriate manager,” Florida Capital president Tom Selby says in a prepared statement. “Their size and related economies of scale, in addition to their strong presence in Orlando, will translate into real cost savings and other tangible benefits” for the joint development venture.

The hotels are the 151-room AmeriSuites, the 162-room Country Inn and Suites and the 148-room La Quinta which opened May 1. Calypso Cay also includes a 120-unit apartment complex and two timeshare buildings.

Two of the hotels, the timeshare buildings and the apartments are clustered on State Roads 417 and 535, two heavily trafficked east-west tollroads near the Orlando International Airport and the major theme parks. Besides hotel management, Interstate will provide housekeeping, check-in and maintenance services to the timeshare buildings and a select number of apartments.

“Complex resorts, like the Calypso Cay, that include different hotel brands, food and beverage operations and a variety of real estate components, require a special expertise,” says John Emery, Interstate president and COO.

Interstate Hotels & Resorts operates 380 hospitality properties with 82,000 rooms in 44 states, the District of Columbia, Canada and Russia. The portfolio includes 55 properties managed by Flagstone Hospitality Management, a subsidiary of Interstate.

Another subsidiary, BridgeStreet Corporate Housing Worldwide, provides fully furnished corporate housing throughout the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France and 39 other countries through its network partners.
