LOMBARD, IL-Attorney Martin Carroll, a partner with Chicago-based corporate real estate firm Fox, Hefter, Swibel, Levin & Carroll, has been elected chairman of the DuPage Theatre Foundation, which is overseeing a $6-million renovation of the 75-year-old property in the heart of this west suburb’s Downtown. Meanwhile, Harp Mid-America has acquired a 6.7-acre site at Yorktown Shopping Center, where it plans to build a 500-room hotel with 50,000 sf of meeting space.

A 2006 opening is expected for the $120-million convention center project.

“There hasn’t been a four star quality hotel built in the I-88 corridor since 1988,” says Lombard village president William Mueller in a statement. “This project will bring more meeting room space under one roof than is presently available.”

The DuPage Theatre Foundation has raised about half the money, including commitments from state and village officials, for a project aimed at restoring the 14,000-sf building at Main and Parkside streets to a theater for film festivals and live productions.

The building, which includes seven first-floor storefronts and second-floor multifamily rental units, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
