DENVER-Lockheed Martin may decide to take its 711,000-sf former local headquarters off the market. At a recent reception at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, CA.,Tom Marsh, president of Lockheed Martin Space Systems Inc., said that the aerospace giant may be able to move back into the Deer Creek facility and take it off the market.

The facility, in the southwest metro area in Jefferson County, is the largest office campus available in the metro area. Marsh was attending a reception for Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper and Gov. Bill Owens, who recently made a whirlwind visit to northern California on an economic development mission.

Asked about plans to sell the site, which has been on the market for a couple of years, Marsh said that Lockheed may need it for itself, and would take it off the market. One thing for sure, he said, is that it won’t unload it at a fire-sale price.

Later, at Lockheed Martin, after Owens and Hickenlooper had toured the facility, Marsh, in a brief conversation with GlobeSt.com, noted that he doesn’t plan to move any divisions to Colorado. However, he added that steady growth could hopefully fill the massive campus.

Marsh said that the company almost sold it on two separate occasions to Colorado Christian University. Neighbors, however, objected to a rezoning for a school on the 38-acre site.

He added that Echostar also looked at buying it, but instead opted to buy the former Merrill Lynch office campus in the Meridian International Business Park in Douglas County.
