ATLANTA-Halted previously by inconclusive plans from the Georgia Department of Transportation to build a 59-mile highway through its planned development, James Creek developer PEC Development Group of Cobb County plans to tentatively break ground in the fall on the 343-acre, multi-million-dollar project.

Forsyth County planning department officials confirm to GlobeSt.com that PEC has filed tentative development plans for 15 acres of commercial space, 300 townhomes and 639 single-family residences at James Creek.

Although state officials have not formally announced the end of their highway project, area brokers familiar with the venture tell GlobeSt.com PEC is proceeding with its project on the understanding the road job is dead.

The first townhomes and single-family units are expected to be ready for occupancy in fall 2004. PEC officials estimate the entire venture will take seven years to complete.
