ATLANTA-Overlooked and often ignored by developers for the last 15 years, despite its proximity to Downtown and Hartsfield International Airport, South Fulton County is finally attracting developers of mixed-use projects, according to preliminary plans filed with the Atlanta Regional Commission and the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority.

Another area development partnership, Schultz Partners and Daniel T. Carter, proposed 217,800 sf of commercial, 122 townhomes and 675 detached residences on 340 acres near the Douglas County line. The nearest major roads are Butner, Campbellton Fairburn and Cascade Palmetto.

The Brooks project, off GA 92 near Fairburn, would comprise one million sf of retail, 920,000 sf of office and a 150,000-sf convention center, according to the Fulton County Department of Environment and Community Development.
