Lifesavers Plant Gets New Life

HOLLAND, MI-The Lifesavers Plant here in Holland, which was closed by Kraft Foods North America earlier this year, will be divided into suites of various sizes to handle a variety of industrial uses.

Fusion Properties of Ada, MI, and Dan Voss Construction have purchased the former Lifesavers plant and plan to split the 400,000-sf building to accommodate potential new tenants.

The property is located within one mile of the M-40 and I-96 interchange, and is served by a railroad line through CSX Transportation.

Fusion closed on the purchase of the 80-acre parcel in September for less than the listing price of $6.9 million, according to reports. Since then, Fusion sold 20 acres to the city’s Board of Public Works for $860,000.

The site has been designated as a brownfield by the state of Michigan.

Lifesavers had been at the west Michigan plant for over a half-century before it closed the plant and moved production to Montreal, Canada. At one point, the plant employed more than 600 people.
