SEDONA, AZ-A group of Sedona residents are trying to block construction of a 90-unit condominium complex planned for the community, claiming the two-story condos will harm native vegetation, cause traffic problems and affect views of the area’s famous Red Rocks.

Sedona residents Robert Brookshire and Linda Nicholas, who claim to represent about 20 residents in the Foothills South development, have asked Sedona City Council to reconsider a recent planning board decision that gave the green light to developer Miller Brothers’ proposal to build the 14-building Park Place Condominiums on nine acres at Highway 89A and Bristlecone Pines Drive.

The condos, clustered into buildings of six to 10 units ranging from 1,600 sf to 2,400 sf, are expected to sell for $390,000 to $550,000. Brookshire tells GlobeSt.com that homeowners in the area are concerned the construction “will have a devastating effect on vegetation” and add more than 500 vehicle trips per day onto Sedona’s main thoroughfare. City Council will hear the appeal this week.
