CARROLLTON, GA-Concerned over the area’s drinking water purity and growing commercial development, Carrollton County and the City of Carrollton have aggregately paid $174,500, or an average $4,532 per acre, for 38.5 acres of conservation land. The sites are about 40 miles southwest of Downtown Atlanta.

The Washington, DC-based Trust for Public Land brokered both deals, the county tells GlobeSt.com. Carrollton County paid $62,500, or $5,000 per acre, for 12.5 acres along the upper Little Tallapoosa River. The tract will be part of a 256-acre regional park the county plans to acquire in the area.

The city paid $112,000, or $4,307 per acre, for 26 acres along Buffalo Creek. The land will be used as a community park.
