PHOENIX-A Camelback Corridor office building, known locally as the Paul Johnson Jewelers building, will soon become known for something else–its legal offices. Ober & Caldwell Real Estate LLC, an entity formed by a pair of Phoenix lawyers, picked up the 12,630-sf, two-story building at 1940 E. Camelback Rd. for $1.2 million.

The structure will be retooled for the buyers’ legal practice, Chris Latvaaho with Cushman & Wakefield’s Arizona office tells GlobeSt.com. Latvaaho says the law firm will take the second floor of the building and will share the first floor with tenant, Todd Photography. The space has been vacant for almost two years after communications giant MCI vacated the property when it filed for bankruptcy, he says. Built in 1977 by Paul Johnson Jewelers, which owned it until its recent sale, the property went on the market in late spring.

Latvaaho, along with Rob Stephens, also with Cushman & Wakefield of Arizona Inc. represented Paul Johnson Jewelers Inc. in the negotiations. Steve Kohls and Craig Coppola, both with Lee & Associates Arizona bargained for the buyer.
