NEW YORK CITY-Increasing its space in the property to 46,272 sf, Google Inc. signs on for 23,136 sf at 1440 Broadway. The world’s No. 1 search engine, subleased office space previously occupied by Primedia Inc.

The CB Richard Ellis team of Kathryn Beach, Michael Geoghegan and Michael R. Laginestra arranged the deal, which runs through 2015, on behalf of Primedia, while Robert Tunis of GVA Williams and Warren Wixen of Bailes & Associates Inc. repped Google. Lease rates for the deal were not available, but space in the site is advertised starting at $34 per sf; subleasing rates tend to be lower.

Google, which previously leased 23,136 sf in the property, will now occupy space on the 20th and 21st floors, for its New York City headquarters offices. Google is headquartered in Silicon Valley with offices throughout North America, Europe, and Asia.

The office space was completely built-out with advanced voice-data, technology and HVAC systems as well as high-end, designer furniture, according to the CBRE team. “The offices, which were originally designed for a creative and technologically-advanced company, fit the bill perfectly and provided Google with the ideal expansion space to house its growing business.” says Beach.

Owned by Max Capital Management Corp., 1440 Broadway is an 800,452-sf, 25-story office tower on 40th Street. Other tenants in the building, constructed in 1925, include Condé Nast, Liz Claiborne, WOR Broadcasting Corp. and Federated Department Stores.
