DENVER-The nonprofit Colorado Coalition for the Homeless has opened the new 120-unit Renaissance at Lowry Boulevard Apartments at the former Lowry Air Force Base. The Renaissance provides “truly affordable” housing for some of Denver’s poorest residences, according to John Parvensky, president of the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless.

The 120-units integrates housing and support services for low-income families, formerly homeless families and families who are at risk of becoming homeless.”We are fortunate at this time of the year to be able to provide new homes to some of the neediest families in our community,” says Parvensky. “We see this model of affordable, supportive housing development as a solution to homelessness in Colorado.”

The Renaissance at Lowry was built on a nine-acre site across of the Community College of Aurora. It’s a mix of two, three- and four-bedroom units, and includes a community center, swimming pool, computer room and exercise room.

Christopher Carvell Architects designs the center, which includes a brick exterior to fit into the mixed-use neighborhood. FCI Constructors was the general contractor. The Renaissance is the first new residential development constructed by the coalition at Lowry.

The group received construction financing from US Bank. Additional funding came from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, the city and county of Denver, and the Colorado Division of Housing. The development also received state and federal low-income housing tax credits.

Renaissance Housing Development Corp., a subsidiary of the coalition, is the developer. Together, the coalition and Renaissance have constructed more than 900 affordable housing units in Denver for homeless and low-income families and individuals since 1996.
