DETROIT-Developers are being sought for a five-acre section of Downtown property along the Detroit River–a total of four parcels owned by General Motors. Jones Lang LaSalle has been retained by GM to market the property to developers.

The proposal selected will include plans for a mixed-use development in an urban village environment and in accordance with the city’s plan to bring more residents to Downtown, according to Matthew P. Cullen, general manager of GM’s economic development and enterprise services.

The land parcels are located immediately east of the GM Renaissance Center in GM’s River East master-planned development and are currently in use as surface parking lots.

A Jones Lang LaSalle team led by senior vice president Dirk Riekse will assist GM in generating and analyzing proposals, as well as negotiating contract terms.

“GM’s plan for River East was developed in cooperation with the City of Detroit, the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, and other civic and community groups dedicated to the economic growth and progress of the riverfront and Downtown areas,” Cullen says. “Our vision for this property has always been to create a setting that would encourage the development of a new urban village with office space, shops, cafes and lofts. The new plazas to the north and south of the GM Renaissance Center and the new riverfront promenade will certainly complement the River East setting.”

The Detroit Riverfront Conservancy is the lead agency working on redeveloping a three-mile stretch of the Detroit Riverfront. The property owned by GM is near the middle of that stretch.
