ATLANTA-Frustrated for 11 years by the alleged raucous activity next door at the Gentlemen’s Club, CARE International has purchased the estimated 20,000-sf property for $975,000–after receiving a $750,000 donation to complete the deal. Now CARE has to figure out what it will do with the acquisition, brokers in a position to know tell GlobeSt.com.The Atlanta-based Robert W. Woodruff Foundation, which convinced CARE to move its global headquarters to Atlanta 11 years ago, provided the bulk of the acquisition funds for the nightclub property. The club closed in 2003. Atlanta police confirm they had received at least 500 complaints over a five-year period against the club before it closed.The Sheraton Atlanta Hotel, across the street from the club and nearing completion of an $8.5 million renovation, had also tried to have the club relocated or shut down over a three-year period, hotel staffers confirm. CARE is one of the largest international humanitarian assistance organizations in the world. The group has a staff of 315 workers at its Atlanta headquarters.
