BOLINGBROOK, IL-US Cellular Corp. chose 245 Crossroads Pkwy., formerly occupied by Sprint Corp., for its sixth US call center after getting approximately $4 million in grants and tax credits from the state. The 95,000-sf call center is expected to begin operations in the middle of 2005 after a renovation and is expected to house up to 450 employees.

Although terms were not disclosed, published asking net lease rates here are in the $14 per sf range. “US Cellular considered numerous locations throughout the US,” says CB Richard Ellis senior vice president Bob Reaumond, who represented the cell phone company along with Rob Marsh from Call Center Solution Group in Phoenix. “The Bolingbrook location provided the right economics and the convenience of being close to its corporate headquarters.” US Cellular has headquarters on Chicago’s Northwest Side.

Lee and Associates’ Ellen Steinbrecher represented Chicago-based Bolingbrook Associates, LLC, owner of the property.

“We looked at a lot of different locations in the area, but Bolingbrook simply had the best combination of facilities, location and economics,” adds US Cellular president and chief executive officer John E. Rooney. “This facility lies in the center of one of the deepest and most talented labor pools in the country.”

The center will handle calls from Chicago area customers, including those in northern Indiana. The company also maintains call centers in Cedar Rapids, IA; Tulsa, OK; Medford, OR; Knoxville, TN; and Waukesha, WI.
