MIDLAND, MI-The Michigan Economic Development Corp. has approved a brownfield Single Business Tax Credit valued at more than $4.5 million to support Dow Chemical’s $45.1 million brownfield revitalization project. Dow Chemical plans to rehabilitate parts of its manufacturing facilities in Midland.

Dow plans to use the SBT credit to upgrade obsolete buildings and infrastructure within its Saran Products suspension facility and modernize its resin manufacturing production capabilities. “Saran resin was invented at our site in 1939 and has been manufactured here since,” says Don Taylor vice president of Dow’s Michigan operations. “This investment is a strong sign that the hard work to make our site competitive for new business is starting to pay off.”

“Dow has operated manufacturing facilities at this site for more than 100 years,” says Gov. Jennifer Granholm. “Modernizing these buildings and making them more efficient will help the company become more competitive, and help secure the jobs of those who work in Midland.”

“Dow and the state of Michigan have enjoyed an excellent relationship, with the company being an employer we can count on over the long haul,” says MEDC president and chief executive officer Don Jakeway. “This project will help secure that partnership for future generations.”
