BALDWIN PARK, CA-A new sale and a new lease underscore the continued demand for industrial space in the San Gabriel Valley, where Apec Corp. has purchased a 71,553-sf building here for its plastics injection molding business and Comptree Inc. has leased 69,361 sf in the City of Industry for its DVD and CD distributing business, according to Cushman &Wakefield.

Apec bought its building from Calwest Industrial Properties for $5.6 million, according to Erik Larson, Robin Dodson and John Minervini of Cushman & Wakefield, who represented the buyer. The concrete tilt-up building at 5020–5050 Rivergrade Road is nearly twice the size of Apec’s existing 38,000-sf facility at 5316 N. Irwindale Ave. in Irwindale. The company, founded in 1997, employs 80 workers and is expected to relocate to its new facility in the first quarter of 2005. Apec supplies its plastic injection molding products to the Fortune 500 medical device community. The building seller was represented by Steve Bellitti and Tom Taylor of The Seeley Co.

Comptree Inc., which distributes a wide range of media products including DVDs, CDs and related accessories throughout the world under the Meritline brand, will expand its operations after signing a three-year lease to occupy a 69,361- sf building at 18961 Arenth Ave. in a transaction valued at $1.2 million. The company, which is headquartered at 16666 Johnson Drive in the City of Industry, will use the building located in the Nogales Industrial Center as an additional warehouse and distribution center. Cushman & Wakefield’s Larson, Dodson and Minervini represented the landlord, 717 Nogales LLC, while the tenant was represented by Pat Bogan of Lee & Associates.
