SAN BERNARDINO, CA-Northrop Grumman Corp. will move its Missile Engineering Center to a new site located on Hospitality Lane inside the 153-acre Tri-City Corporate Centre at the junction of Interstates 10 and 215 by January 2006. The defense firm, which has been a longtime tenant on East Harry Sheppard Boulevard in San Bernardino, plans initially to occupy 85,000 sf of a new building at Tri-City Corporate Centre under a 10-year lease that Grumman recently signed with Rancon Realty Fund V, owner and developer of the center. The new building will be managed, leased and developed by Glenborough Realty Trust Inc. on behalf of Rancon. Glenborough represented Rancon in the lease with Grumman, which was represented by Phil Woodford and Ian DeVries of the Ontario office of CB Richard Ellis.Northrop Grumman will move approximately 225 scientists and engineers into the new three-story, high-tech facility where the company will have options to grow beyond the initial 85,000 sf. The developers expect to break ground on the new facility in early 2005.The defense firm “has been a major player in San Bernardino for more than 42 years,” notes Burt Yamada, Northrop Grumman’s director of the Missile Engineering Center in San Bernardino. Northrop Grumman came to San Bernardino in 1962 when the former TRW, which was acquired by Northrop Grumman in 2002, moved to the area from LosAngeles. The company’s Missile Engineering Center is supporting two major government missile programs: the ICBM Minuteman III modernization program for which Northrop Grumman is the prime contractor responsible for maintaining, sustaining, and modernizing the nation’s fleet of Minuteman III missiles; and the Kinetic Energy Interceptors program, a missile defense program for which Northrop Grumman is the prime contractor.
