TROY, MI-Automation Alley opened its $2.5-million headquarters facility Monday. Automation Alley is a consortium of private companies, colleges and governments that aims to promote high-tech business in the Detroit region.

The consortium had been operating from space in Oakland Countygovernmental buildings and in rented space in Troy but now has a 12,000-sf headquarters designed and constructed by Barton Malow. The facility was paid for entirely by state and federal grants, and is located in a tax enterprise zone in Troy. “This is an incredible facility, with a range of high-tech meeting and display space that our membership can take advantage of,” says Ken Rogers, executive director of Automation Alley.

The new headquarters is home to the Automation Alley staff, as well as to the GLIMA Network and the Alley’s Technology Center, which leverages businesses, educators and government to help entrepreneurs accelerate the commercialization of new technologies and services. Companies that have developed new technologies will have the opportunity to display them in the building’s 2,200-sf glassed-in Technology Atrium, which also serves as a meeting room and auditorium, with seating for up to 150 people. The headquarters also features conference rooms that offer Web casting, conference calling and video conferencing capabilities that can be reserved by any Automation Alley member for business purposes.
