PORTLAND-The Portland Development Commission went live late last month with “Portland Prospector,” a searchable online database designed to assist site selectors, businesses and economic development professionals in locating market-ready sites in the Portland metropolitan area. So far 32 properties–seven for sale and 25 for lease–have been listed on the site, which is a subset of Oregon Prospector, the statewide version. The Portland Prospector database, available at www.pdc.us/sitesearch, includes state-certified and market-ready sites and available buildings in the Portland area. Certified sites are those that have received a comprehensive review and can be ready for construction in six months or less. The review, which can be accessed online, includes current information available for water, sewer, electrical, gas and telecommunications availability and capacity, environmental issues and transportation accessibility. Web site users can mine for properties by type, size, for sale or lease. Through a search on Portland Prospector, visitors can also access information on the area surrounding a site, including demographics, labor force, and available housing. Users can also print maps and download custom reports for each listed property. The database expands upon the site selection services PDC currently provides, which include customized site searches using a proprietary database available only by subscription. To maximize the effectiveness of the online database and provide additional exposure for local properties, PDC officials are encouraging local brokers to list their available properties on Portland Prospector. “Much of the success of this new service is dependent upon the local brokerage community’s willingness to list properties and keep the information current,” says Bob Alexander, PDC director of economic development. “We hope to grow the list of available properties significantly in the next several months. It will be a win-win for everyone.” PDC partnered with the Oregon Economic Development Association, PacifiCorp, and GIS Planning to develop the Portland Prospector site. More information about listing available properties on the site is available from Tim McCabe at PacifiCorp. He can be contacted via email at [email protected], or by phone at 503-813-5117.
