CLINTON TWP., MI-By now, Clinton Township officials had hoped to replace a shuttered Beefcarver restaurant and Crown furniture store with new development. But months later, the northeast corner of Metropolitan Parkway and Gratiot is completely dark at night, a sign of stalled efforts to bring at new business to the corner.

Months after the two structures were expected to be demolished, there’s little progress on plans to construct a new CVS Pharmacy at the site of the restaurant, officials report. “There are a number of factors that have come into play, and until we get those settled, I don’t have anything else to say,” says Dennis Brinker, the restaurant owner.

Clinton Township officials last spring approved a development plan that called for the Beefcarver to be torn down this summer, with the CVS store taking the intersection location. The Beefcarver was expected to take the place of Crown Furniture, immediately north of its current location. The furniture store closed for good in January.

The Beefcarver corporation purchased the furniture property last January, but Brinker has indicated in the past that he had yet to finalize a deal with CVS. CVS spokesman Michael DeAngelis could not be reached for comment on the status of the project.
