LOVELAND, CO-Rocky Scott has been the “go-to guy” for anything involving economic development in Colorado Springs for the past 16 years. But in mid-June, Scott will be joining McWhinney Enterprises in Loveland, a city in northern Colorado, as a company principal and senior vice president of office and industrial development. Scott is currently the president of the Greater Colorado Springs Economic Development Council.

In his new role, Scott will lead the team responsible for any office or industrial projects–from feasibility analysis to concept to completion, including planning and design, construction, marketing, and leasing and sales.

“His experience and skills in business and economic development are a valuable addition to not only McWhinney Enterprises, but to the Northern Colorado community as a whole,” says Chad McWhinney, principal and CEO for McWhinney Enterprises.

J.J. Johnston, president and CEO of the Northern Colorado Economic Development Corp., is also excited about Scott’s decision. “This is great news,” Johnston says. “I’m delighted to have economic development practitioners the caliber of Rocky Scott in Northern Colorado. I congratulate McWhinney Enterprises–Rocky is a great hire for their organization.”

Scott’s return to the private sector has been a long-term goal. “When I originally joined the EDC staff it was to be temporary, with the idea that I would return to the private sector two years later,” Scott says. “My work with EDC turned out to be so rewarding, however, that my planned departure has been extended by 14 years. EDC has a strong program and leadership team in place. The time is now right for me to take on this private sector opportunity, which offers a stimulating, fresh new challenge.”

It is estimated that Colorado Springs EDC clients announced more than 42,000 primary jobs under Scott’s watch. Scott adds that the move to northern Colorado has other benefits–he is looking forward to living closer to his children and grandchildren.
