BRIDGEPORT, CT-With construction to begin next month, Urban Green Builders of New York City, which plans to redevelop the former Citytrust tower building and other properties in the Downtown area, has added a partner, Ginsburg Development Corp. of Hawthorne, NY. The partnership brings together veteran developers Martin Ginsburg, a principal of GDC, and Eric Anderson, principal of Urban.

The four-phased project, which a GDC representative estimated will be valued at more than $100 million when completed, will involve the conversion of the former Citytrust tower, the former Arcade mall and buildings at the four corners of Main and Golden Hill streets into housing, retail space and offices.

The mixed-use project will include between 600 units and 1,000 units of housing, 300,000 sf of commercial and institutional space and parking for 400. The first phase, which is expected to start sometime in June, will focus on the Citytrust site and adjoining properties and will feature 188 housing units and approximately 23,000 sf of retail space.

In 2002, Urban Green Builders, formerly known as A&F Commercial Builders, was designated as the preferred developer of the city’s Downtown North Project. GDC officials say that the Bridgeport venture is the first of what is expected to be several partnerships between the firm and Urban Green Builders. They add that the two companies are exploring opportunities in Westchester County where “they can combine their expertise to develop affordable housing units.” Ginsburg calls Bridgeport “an emerging city with immense potential. By combining the strengths of our two firms, we believe we can help the city become one of the most exciting small cities in the Northeast.”
