DENVER-The Catholic Charities dedicated a $10 million, 70-unit housing project at 3101 S. Federal Blvd. in southwest Denver. The project is aimed at families at risk of homelessness.

The center, called Mount Loretto Family Housing, offers one- to four-bedroom units to low-income families. Mayor John Hickenlooper says the high-quality housing fits in perfectly with his plan to end homelessness in Denver over the next decade.

In addition to the Catholic Charities, the apartments were built with the help of the Sisters of Loretto, the City of Denver, the State of Colorado and other partners. The housing development is adjacent other Teikyo Loretto Heights University campus.

Catholic Charities started working on the development in 2001, after the Sisters of Loretto donated 5.6 acres for the center. In addition to housing, it includes a playground, community center, a large patio area and a computer room where residents are taught skills to help them find work.
