NEW YORK CITY-Three new appointments have just been completed at Real Estate Media, all designed to enhance the presence and firepower of the firm’s already formidable print-magazine operation. Key among the new hires is Barbara L. Nelson, who assumes the position of editor of Real Estate New York. Nelson comes to the firm from Real Estate Weekly, where she was senior writer. Two associate editors were also named.

Real Estate Media, an independently operated unit of ALM Media Inc., publishes Real Estate Forum, GlobeSt.com, GlobeStRETAIL.com, Real Estate New Jersey and Real Estate Southern California, in addition to Real Estate New York and a series of specialized newsletters. The firm also produces the RealShare Conference Series.

“Barbara assumes this post as we continue to expand and solidify our presence in New York to meet a growing demand for commercial real estate news and information,” says Jonathan A. Schein, president and CEO of Real Estate Media. He notes that since its inception in 1994, Real Estate New York has become one of Metro New York’s fastest growing and most recognizable commercial real estate magazines.

“Barbara’s depth of experience as a journalist, encompassing various sectors of the local business community, and her relationships with the major players in New York’s real estate and the construction and design industries, make her an outstanding choice to lead the editorial staff of Real Estate New York,” states Michael Desiato, group managing director and editor in chief of Real Estate Media.

Nelson’s credentials bear out the claim. While at the Weekly, she was responsible for the launch of a Construction and Design news section in addition to writing feature articles on the real estate, construction and architectural design industries. She also proved herself to be a strong investigative reporter.

“This is an exciting new challenge for me, to take the editorial scope of Real Estate New York to yet another level,” notes Nelson, who assumes the reins of an established magazine that reaches an audience of more than 12,000. “I want to continue with the excellent in-depth coverage that Real Estate New York readers have come to know. It is vital that we continue to expand the coverage of New York as an international city, to delve into issues that reveal this region both as the local market that real estate is and an indicator of the larger global economy.”

Working with Nelson on Real Estate New York is newly named associate editor Jesse Serwer. Rounding out the new hires is Paul Ziobro, who becomes associate editor of national flagship publication Real Estate Forum.
