ST. PAUL-The Metropolitan Council recently approved $2.7 million in grants to help clean up a variety of polluted Twin Cities’ communities–clean ups that could make way for 10 projects that include retail, housing and industrial.

The Livable Communities grants will go to projects in Blaine, Minneapolis, Mound, Ramsey, St. Louis Park and St. Paul. The Council has awarded more than $50 million in brownfield clean-up grants for the cleaning of hundreds of acres of polluted land, according to the Metropolitan Council.

The National Lead Site in St. Louis Park will get $800,000 to match state funds for soil remediation on the 11.6-acre former superfund site at 7003 W. Lake St., which will make way for a redevelopment plan proposes a 99,000-sf industrial building. Park Avenue Lofts in Minneapolis is getting $419,000 for soil remediation on a 5.35-acre parcel at Park Avenue between Washington Avenue South and Second Street, which could be redeveloped into a 28-unit residential condominium project.
