ANN ARBOR, MI-Borders Books & Music says it plans to open five new stores in Virginia, Kentucky and California. Three of the new stores will be located in Virginia, bringing the 500-plus store chain’s Virginia total to 15. The Virginia locations will be in Newport News, 21,017 sf, in the Patrick Henry Mall; Warrenton, 19,750 sf, Warrenton Center Shopping Plaza; and Winchester, 20,000 sf, in the Winchester Station Shopping Center.

“Virginia is a wonderful state, known for its museums and cultural facilities as well as for its commitment to education,” says Ray Dinterman, regional director for Borders. “We look forward to continuing to cultivate our relationship with book, music and movie lovers in Virginia and offering its cities great selection, service and community involvement.”

The 20,000-sf store in Crestview, KY, in the Crestview Hills Town Center, will be the first Borders store in Northern Kentucky and the fifth store in the greater Cincinnati area. A 23,000-sf store, in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, in the Victoria Gardens Lifestyle Center, will be Borders’ 43rd store in Southern California.
