PARSIPPANY, NJ-Waterview Developers LLC has a proposal on the table to turn 26 wooded acres here into 240 residential units and 80,000 sf of retail space, but the future of the project is in doubt. The township council this week deleted the proposal from its agenda. Waterview, a local partnership headed by William King and James Smith, put the project forth earlier this year.

According to a published report, council president James Vigilante this week formally informed Jay DeLaney Jr., the developer’s attorney, that the body had no plans to schedule hearings on the town center proposal. DeLaney, incidentally, is also the mayor of nearby Morristown, NJ. Neither Vigilante nor DeLaney could be reached for comment.

Local opposition has coalesced in the form of Parsippany Residents for Intelligent Development, or PRIDE. According to a statement on the citizens’ group’s web site, “The Council has removed the ‘Town Center’ proposal from their agenda [which] means that they will not be entertaining the discussion. This is a small victory, but the developers still have several other avenues to pursue if they wish–including getting back on the agenda.”
