BALTIMORE-The Marriott Residence Inn Downtown/Inner Harbor has reached completion, marking the debut of the second Marriott Residence Inn here. Bethesda, MD-headquartered Urgo Hotels developed the 188-unit property, while Donohoe Construction served as the general contractor on the project.

The 15-story hotel is the first upscale all-suite lodging facility in the city’s popular Inner Harbor area. According to a Winter 2004 report put out by the Baltimore Development Corp, the property–which was designed by the architectural firm of Brennan Beer Gorman Monk Architects & Interiors PLLC– has a development cost of $28 million.

Carrying the address of 17 Light St., the Residence Inn is located within walking distance of Camden Yards and the Ravens Football Stadium and just three blocks from the Baltimore Convention Center. The hotel offers 1,500 sf of meeting space, which is divided between two rooms, and a fitness center, library and business center are also on the premises.

“The hotel appeals to a broad cross-section of guests due to its proximity to the city’s tourist venue, the Baltimore Convention Center, medical centers, financial institutions, and commercial center,” says Urgo senior vice president Kevin Urgo. In a June 2005 report on a proposed convention center hotel prepared by the Abell Foundation, report author John B. O’Donnell writes that, “high room rates are a sign of a healthy hotel market and Baltimore’s hotel market is strong, providing good occupancy levels and room rates at a time when hotel profits nationally are on the rise.”
