BOSTON-DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary US LLP signed a 10-year lease for 50,471 sf at one of Boston’s newest office towers. The law firm will move into 33 Arch St. early next year.

“This location best met their criteria for prestige, views, quality, value and the ability to handle growth,” William P. Barrack, with Spaulding & Slye Colliers, tells GlobeSt.com.

Elliot Surkin, managing partner of DLA Piper’s Boston office, says the law firm’s rapid expansion necessitated the move. “Our Boston Office has almost doubled in size this year with the addition of lawyers and other professionals serving our corporate, litigation and real estate clients,” says Surkin, adding that the firm looked at a number of alternatives within the financial district, but choose 33 Arch because it allowed for greater expansion and had in-building parking among its amenities. DLA Piper currently has 90 employees, including more than 50 lawyers, in its Boston office and more than 1,400 lawyers in 20 offices nationally.

The law firm, which is currently located at One International Place, will take two floors in the 600,000-sf building. Completed in 2004, the 33-story office tower is 70% leased to tenants including the car rental firm Zip Car and Digitas, a public relations firm. Terms of the lease were not released but the building, owned by Arch Street Tower LLC–comprised of the Congress Group, Value Enhancement Fund IV LP, and the National Electrical Benefit Fund–generally rents in the $30 to $40 per-sf price range.

Barrack, along with Spauling & Slye Colliers’ senior vice president William F. Collins represented DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary. The building owner was represented by the CB Richard Ellis/Whittier Partners team of Andrew W. Hoar, Timothy M. Lyne, Andrew Maher and Leah Prebluda.
