ATLANTA-Edward J. Rohling is the new CEO at locally based Lodgian Inc. The 51-year-old Rohling, a former Marriott Corp. executive with 25 years of hotel operations experience, replaces W. Thomas Parrington. Parrington has also resigned as a director and is leaving the company for other challenges in the hospitality industry, according to a prepared statement from the company.

Rohling’s succession to the CEO suite was previously planned by Lodgian directors and reported by GlobeSt.com. Rohling joined the firm July 15 as president. Like Rohling, Parrington previously wore two hats at the company as president and CEO.

“Tom did a remarkable job in turning our company around,” Rohling says in the company statement. “We are wrapping up a $100-million-plus renovation program and our portfolio is in a highly competitive condition, with properties located in strong and growing markets.”

He adds, “The company has significantly strengthened its balance sheet. Now that Lodgian is in good physical condition, I will focus my efforts on improving operating results through strategic operating plans and retaining attracting the best people to operate our hotels.”

Meanwhile, in hurricane-struck New Orleans, Lodgian has closed the 205-room Quality Hotel & Conference Center in Metairie, seven miles from Downtown New Orleans, and is repairing water damage at the 244-room Radisson New Orleans Airport in Kenner, 10 miles northwest of New Orleans. A third Lodgian hotel, the Courtyard by Marriott in Lafayette, 135 miles from New Orleans, was unaffected by the storm.
