NEEDHAM, MA-Boston Electronic Cash Register has signed a five-year sublease for 9,000 sf of office and production space at 254 Second Ave. here. The firm was previously located in about 5,000 sf at 70 Birmingham Parkway in Brighton.

The company wanted a more suburban location with better highway access for both its employees and the customers it serves, says Lisa DonFrancesco with Saint James Real Estate Advisors. Terms of that lease, which will begin when the company moves in next month, were unavailable. DonFranceso says the 85,000-sf building, currently fully occupied by Community Newspapers, leases in the mid-teens per sf.

DonFrancesco handled the transaction for the tenant. Phil DeSimone, Peter Richardson and Jay Nugent, all with Spaulding & Slye, represented Community Newspapers.
