LONE TREE, CO-Sky Ridge Medical Center recently purchased an additional 15 acres of land at RidgeGate, a 3,500-acre mix-used, environmentally smart development at East Lincoln Avenue and Interstate 25, south of the Park Meadows regional mall.

Sky Ridge Medical Center, a HealthONE hospital, opened at RidgeGate in August 2003, and already has 138 beds. The hospital’s additional land purchase will mean it will own 57 acres at RidgeGate and will be able to expand its bed base to 335.

“RidgeGate is a five-star location,” says Maureen Tarrant, president and CEO of the hospital. “We’ve been steadily expanding Sky Ridge Medical Center since the opening. It’s a real testament to our service as well as our location, which is convenient and accessible for employees and patients.”

Sky Ridge has also integrated access to light rail into its plans, which voters approved to include in the FasTracks system. RidgeGate will have three light-rail stations, including an “end-of-line” station at the new RidgeGate Parkway Interchange on I-25, at the heart of a major transit-oriented development.

Development at the 3,500-acre master-planned community started with Sky Ridge Medical Center in 2003. In 2004, a new recreation center opened. Now, 87 residents have moved in. The development also is being served by the recently opened Lincoln Commons retail development featuring a SuperTarget, Starbucks, two restaurants and several other stores. When complete, RidgeGate will include more than 15 million sf of office, retail and civic space, plus housing including apartments, condos, townhomes and detached, single-family homes, as well as approximately 1,200 acres of parks, trails and open space.

“RidgeGate is dedicated to smart and responsible growth,” says Keith Simon, vice president and development director of RidgeGate. “Our work is based on that competitive advantage that comes from better recipes and not just more cooking. It’s all about bringing New Urbanism to the Southeast metro area. It hasn’t been available in the Southeast metro-area suburbs at this scale.”
