DENVER-The tenant representation team of Sam DePizzol, Adam Barron, Brian Wells, Don Fitzmartin and Cuica Montoya, formerly of the Staubach Co. recently joined CB Richard Ellis’ Downtown office. “I brought my entire team with me,” DePizzol tells GlobeSt.com. “It wasn’t an easy decision. It’s not like CB made the offer and we jumped at it; we agonized over it.”

DePizzol also tells GlobeSt.com that it wasn’t reflection on any shortcomings at the Denver office of Staubach. “We were all very successful there,” DePizzol tells GlobeSt.com. “But CB doesn’t really focus on the tenant-rep niche, while at Staubach everyone was fishing out of the same pond. This is a chance for us to create something at CB–it’s an incredible opportunity.”

Rick Calhoun, senior managing director for CBRE’s Denver local market area, says the team will fit in well with the current brokers in the downtown office. “These individuals were recruited as much for their collaborative attitude as for their acumen in tenant representation,” Calhoun says. “The new team will work in conjunction with our Downtown Team and Corporate Services Group, making CBRE the dominant firm in tenant representation and project management in the Denver market.”

While everyone on the former Staubach team is a broker, Fitzmartin will head the construction management for the new tenant rep division. Fitzmartin and his colleagues recently handled the project management of a 160,000-sf facility at Denver’s Republic Plaza for EnCana Oil & Gas Inc. Don McClure, EnCana’s vice president of finance services says: “We view the design and build out of that facility as a great success, and it can be attributed to the fine work of Mr. Fitzmartin and his team.”

The broader team will collaborate on a variety of projects but focus primarily on office tenant representation within the Downtown submarket. According to Calhoun, the Denver office market is seeing increases in tenant demand.

“Users from around the country are looking to Denver as a possible relocation or expansion market, and downtown is experiencing more activity than any other office district in the metro area,” says Calhoun. For example, Carter & Burgess, a real estate consulting firm, recently relocated its Denver office and utilized the services of DePizzol and his team.
