WATERBURY, CT-Less than a year after it signed its original lease deal to occupy space at the building, St. Mary’s Hospital is expanding its presence at the Croft Commons building here by 20,010 sf. The hospital’s leased space will grow from 16,800 sf to 36,810 sf on the third and fourth floors of Pavilion A and the third floor of Pavilion B at the 95 Scovill St. site.

The hospital’s IT department, pediatrics and an OB/GYN clinic will now all be housed at the Croft Commons property, according to Michael Belfonti, president and chief executive officer of Belfonti Associates. An entity of the Hamden-based firm is a partner in the ownership of the 95,000-sf building. The ownership’s other partner is an entity controlled by Tom Gessler of Gessler Development.

St. Mary’s, Waterbury’s largest teaching hospital, first located operations at the building in February of this year. Other tenants include the Social Security Administration and the city’s Health Department.

“We continue to see the economic vitality of the region largely supported by dynamic healthcare organizations like Saint Mary’s, which employs more than 1,700 workers,” Belfonti says. Croft Commons is a completely renovated office building owned by Scovill Commons Partners LLC. The partnership also owns Waterbury Commons, an 182,500-sf office complex.
