NAGOYA, JAPAN-ProLogis plans to develop a 645,800-sf industrial facility next to a new airport that opened near here earlier this year. The facility, to be called ProLogis Parc Centrair, will serve transport, logistics and manufacturing companies with operations in and around Nagoya, which is one of Japan’s primary industrial hubs.

The airport opened in February on a reclaimed island in Japan’s Ise Bay and is expected to eventually handle up to 300,000 tons of air freight per year. Parc Centrair will consist of a five-story building on a six-acre property adjacent to the airport. ProLogis says the site is “one of the island’s only remaining parcels available for development” and that it has an option on an additional 4.4 acres of contiguous land.

ProLogis has about seven million sf in operation in Japan and another eight million is planned or under development.

Also this week, ProLogis announced a lease agreement with the Germany-based athletic shoe and clothing company Adidas for a 646,000-sf national distribution center in Suzhou, China. The facility will be located within Suzhou Industrial Park, which is 50% owned by ProLogis’ equity joint-venture partner, Suzhou Logistics Centre Co. Ltd.

Adidas is an existing tenant in the park. It will relocate from a smaller 172,000-sf facility when the new building is completed sometime during the second half of 2006.

ProLogis has exclusive development rights for logistics facilities at Suzhou Industrial Park under its joint venture, which began in 2004. Other ProLogis global customers at the park include L’Oreal, Samsung, UPS and Nokia.
