KANSAS CITY, MO-Merging movie house operators have agreed to sell 10 theaters in eight markets over the next four months. The sale is required for the companies to proceed with their merger, which was first announced in June.

The disposition agreement follows a review of the planned merger by the US Department of Justice and the attorneys general of California, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Massachusetts, New York and Washington.

The theaters to be sold include two theaters each in Chicago, San Francisco, and DC, and one each in Boston, Dallas, New York City and Seattle. The companies anticipate selling the properties over the next four months.

The names of the theaters to be sold are as follows: AMC City North 14 and Loews Webster Place 11 (Chicago); AMC Union Station 9 and Loews Wisconsin Ave. 6 (DC); AMC Kabuki 8 and AMC Van Ness 14 (San Francisco); Loews E-Walk 13 (New York City); Loews Meridian 16 (Seattle); Loews Keystone 16 (Dallas); and AMC Fenway 13 (Boston). An AMC representative declined comment on why these particular locations were chosen. A Loews representative did not return a phone call seeking comment.

Kansas City-based AMC operates approximately 226 theaters with 3,522 screens in the US, Canada, France, Hong Kong, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom. New York City-based Loews owns, operates or has an interest in 198 theaters with 2,235 screens in the US, Mexico, South Korea and Spain.
