NEW YORK CITY-Perhaps looking to cash in on staggering City real estate prices, MetLife Inc. may be putting its Peter Cooper Village and Stuyvesant Town properties on the market, according to reports. The properties are widely believed to compose the largest apartment complex in New York.

The complex is situated on the East Side of Manhattan and runs from the East River to First Ave. and 14 to 23rd Streets. The total area covered by the complex is more than 80 acres and contains more than 11,200 rental unites.

MetLife did not return phone calls from GlobeSt.com, but published reports said that the company would not discuss specifics of a possible sale, but it is believed that any buyer may be looking to convert the complex into condominiums. The properties are owned by the company’s Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. affiliate.
