NEW YORK CITY-With the job nearly done, Stefan Pryor, president of the Lower Manhattan Development Corp., is taking the position of deputy mayor for economic development for the city of Newark, according to published reports.

Pryor’s departure comes after last month’s decision to disband the LMDC later this year. Many employees of the entity will join other city or state agencies. Pryor, who has been at the LMDC since November 2001, will join newly elected Mayor Cory Booker’s administration in the first week of September and help in the task of revitalizing that city. Booker has made it known he is trying to attract top talent for his redevelopment effort.

Prior to joining the LMDC, which was formed as a result to help rebuild Downtown after the World Trade Center attacks on Sept. 11, Pryor served as a vice president at the Partnership for New York City. “Stefan has played an instrumental role in the LMDC’s success,” Kevin Rampe, the chairman of the city agency said in a statement.

“I am proud of the LMDC’s accomplishments over the past five years and appreciate the hard work and dedication of our staff as the agency’s transition advances,” said Pryor, also in a statement. He also said he was “grateful to Mayor Booker” for the job opportunity.
