HARRISON, NJ-Advance Realty Group has hired Turner Construction Co. to manage its Harrison MetroCentre mixed-use project on this city’s waterfront. The project, which involves demolition of existing industrial structures and the site’s subsequent redevelopment, will be managed out of Turner’s Somerset office. Turner, in turn, has hired Mazzocchi Wrecking of East Hanover to take down the existing buildings.

“We’re very excited to have started demolition at the site,” says Kevin Tartaglione, SVP-development of the Bedminster-based Advance Realty. “With demolition of the existing buildings on the site, everyone here can now look forward to construction of this mixed-use development.”

As master developer of Harrison MetroCentre, Advance will oversee development of a $1-billion project encompassing office, retail and residential components. As reported by GlobeSt.com, the site plan calls for upwards of three million sf of class A office space, 3,500 residential units, 300,000 sf of retail space, 10,000 decked parking spaces and the 25,000-seat Red Bull Park, new home of the New York Red Bulls Major League Soccer team.

Also as reported by GlobeSt.com, work officially started on the stadium with a formal groundbreaking earlier this month. The stadium itself is being constructed separately within the redevelopment site by AEG and beverage maker Red Bull, which co-own the team and will co-own the $200-million venue. Red Bull Park is slated to be ready for the 2008 MLS season.

The demolition process will start immediately, according to Thomas V. Reilly, vice president and general manager for Turner Construction Co. “This is an outstanding project,” he says.

The demolition and site work process is expected to be completed by a year from now, with construction of Harrison MetroCentre’s infrastructure to begin immediately thereafter. “We have mobilized a large crew and will complete demolition for the project on schedule,” says Grace Mazzochi, president of Mazzochi demolition.
