NEW YORK CITY-The New York Academy of Sciences has moved into its new headquarters at 7 World Trade Center, after being the first company to commit to the first building to fall on 9/11. As reported by GlobeSt.com,the non-profit leased the 40 floor in December 2005 in a 15-year deal.

H3 Hardy Collaboration Architecture designed the company’s new space in an attempt to reinvent its image and launch it into the 21 century. According to a company release, the 40,000 sf the Academy is leasing will house 85 employees and meeting space for up to 300 people.

Prior to the move, the Academy was housed in an Upper East Side mansion since 1949; although the company first occupied space just two block from its new location. “This move gives us a new lease on life. After many decades in a beautiful and stately mansion what could accommodate no more than 100 people in any single room, the New York Academy of Sciences opens for business on the 40 floor of 7 World Trade Center,” says Ellis Rubinstein, the president of the Academy, in a statement.

The Academy was represented by Mary Ann Tighe, Tim Sheehan and Ken Meyerson of CB Richard Ellis. Exclusive leasing agent Steve Siegel of CBRE represented Silverstein Properties.
