LONDON-Parkview International, owner of Battersea Power Station, has been given the go-ahead for a 4.5-million-sf conversion of the London landmark. Six detailed planning applications and one revised application were approved at a meeting of the planning committee at Wandsworth Council.

Designs include development of 750 flats and apartments, two hotels, more than 753,480 sf office and a 2,000-seat auditorium. The consents for a total of 4.5 million sf mean Parkview can begin the construction phase of the project and resume the leasing program, which was suspended temporarily following the departure of key Parkview executives Mike Roberts and Mike Swinney, earlier this year.

“Today is an important day for the Battersea Power Station project,” says Parkview president Victor Hwang. “We have appreciated the unwavering support of Wandsworth Council, who have seen us through in excess of 50 submissions since 1996. It has taken us 13 years and an investment of euro 297 million ($381 million) to arrive where we are today. As a foreign investor, it has been somewhat of a revelation to realize that it is not uncommon in Europe for projects of this scale and complexity to take this long to navigate through the planning process.”

In another development Parkview confirmed they are still hunting for a development partner to help fund and coordinate the huge project, one of London’s largest ongoing urban-regeneration projects.
