WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA-The West Hollywood City Council has unanimously approved a proposal by Regent Properties to develop a 152-unit multifamily project called Greenwich Place that will include townhouses, condominiums and affordable apartments. The development site, nearly three acres and known locally as the Sherbourne Triangle, is generally bounded by Beverly Boulevard, San Vicente Boulevard and Sherbourne Drive.

According to Doug Brown, managing partner of Regent Properties, the design will “provide a much-needed boost to the housing stock” in West Hollywood with its combination of market rate and affordable units. It will be designed by the architectural firm of Van Tilburg, Banvard and Soderbergh.

The Greenwich Place units will consist of 117 market-rate condominiums and 35 units of affordable housing. The project’s four brownstone-style buildings will be spread throughout the site and interspersed with landscaping and paseos that run across the property. The design will connect the residential neighborhood to the west with the commercial district to the east and south of the project site along San Vicente, La Cienega and Beverly boulevards.

The city council’s 5-to-0 vote came nearly two years after Regent first submitted its plan for the property. Brown points out that the company worked closely with leaders of the surrounding West Hollywood neighborhood to craft a project that would fit with the city’s and residents’ vision for the site.

According to Brown, the concentration of the 35 affordable rental units in one building makes it the largest affordable housing complex ever to have been approved for construction in West Hollywood. Regent Properties is in discussions with several nonprofit organizations concerning the facility’s operation. Construction of Greenwich Place, which is anticipated to begin later this year, is projected to take 22 months to complete.
