DALLAS-In conjunction with a 10,000-sf military museum in his Downtown skyscraper, Zaya Younan has stepped up to sponsor a new exhibit in the 100,000-sf Frontiers of Flight Museum at Love Field.

The Love Field venue at 6911 Lemmon Ave. is a designated Smithsonian affiliate that showcases loaned pieces from the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC in addition to its permanent collection. The new exhibit, “America’s Longest Conflict,” will memorialize American aviation during global conflicts and full-scale wars from 1946 to 1991, including the Cold War and the fall of the Berlin Wall. Work on the special exhibit will begin soon.

“This significant gift will enable us to develop an exhibit that will be a lasting memorial to American military involved in close to a half-century of global conflict,” Ilene Stern, vice president for advancement at the Frontiers of Flight Museum, says in a press release. In addition to the financial donation, the Zaya and Sherry S. Younan Foundation will contribute family artifacts.

Younan, chairman and CEO of Los Angeles-based Younan Properties Inc., is dovetailing the Frontiers of Flight exhibit with a 10,000-sf war museum that he’s incorporating into the 615,000-sf One Dallas Centre in the Downtown. He bought the IM Pei & Partners’ design last month for his seven-million-sf Dallas portfolio, renaming it to Patriot Tower. “We’re grateful for the opportunity to honor those who fought for their country over many decades of international conflict,” Younan says in the release.

The Love Field museum’s permanent display includes artifacts, documents and photographs from the University of Texas at Dallas’ history of aviation collection. Its treasure trove of artifacts includes a full-size World War I Sopwith “Pup” biplane and the Apollo 7 command module.
