ORLANDO-Tampa-based Opus South Corp. has hired Anthony Martin in the newly created position of vice president of residential development. Martin, who has 25 years of experience in residential real estate, will be based in Orlando.

He will be responsible for directing the company’s portfolio of seven residential developments currently under way and will also evaluate new multifamily opportunities within the region.

Opus South’s current residential developments in Florida include Meridian at One North Ocean in Boca Raton, Water’s Edge in Clearwater, Harbour Watch Condominium in Clearwater Harbor, La Serena on Perdido Key in Pensacola, 400 Beach Dr. in St. Petersburg and Riviera Dunes on the Manatee River in Palmetto. In Macon, GA, the company is developing Ansley Village apartments.

Martin tells GlobeSt.com that his short-term plans for the company are to fill inventory in existing projects. However, in the future, the company sees opportunities for residential development in areas, such as North Carolina and Atlanta. “We want to be poised so that, when the market returns, we’ll be ready,” he says.

Despite the overbuilding that most industry officials concede has occurred in recent years, Martin sees opportunities for future residential development in Florida. “People are still moving to Florida,” he says. “It has excess inventory, but I think that inventory will be chewed up quicker than in other areas.”

Martin most recently served as executive vice president of development for Tarragon Corp. in Orlando where he was responsible for 24 multifamily communities in Florida, South Carolina and Tennessee. Previously he served as vice president of Guardian Equities and president of Victoria Equities.
