WASHINGTON, DC-Studley is building out its green building expertise with the addition of Olivia Millar, a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design accredited professional. She is joining the Washington office as associate director.

Over the past year, Studley has led the negotiations for several major LEED buildouts, including Conservation International and the Alliance to Save Energy. It hopes to expand its base in this field. Eventually, Millar tells GlobeSt.com, she hopes to work on nothing but green accounts. Right now, though, “I don’t think there is enough business here to concentrate only on green.”

A secondary goal, on which is she now working, is to help clients have a sustainable focus in their leases. This can include anything from encouraging the landlord to use green cleaning suppliers, to ensuring that it has a green recycling program in place, to the provision of bike racks, to investigating which buildings have the cleanest indoor air supply.

“Building tenants are becoming more ecologically prudent with their business practices,” says Gary Stein, executive managing director and the senior broker with whom Millar will be working. “More and more of our clients are beginning to recognize that LEED accredited professionals are a necessary component of the real estate team.”

Prior to joining Studley, Millar worked for Mancini Duffy where she was the firm’s first LEED manager. She recently received the 2007 Developing Leader Award from the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties.
