TAMPA, FL-Jerry Shaw, a 22-year commercial real estate veteran, has stepped down from his longtime post as senior vice president of real estate at Opus South Corp. He has launched his own firm, Edge Development and Consulting Inc.

Shaw formally launched the company earlier this week after departing Opus South’s Tampa office March 31. He says the new company will focus on various property types and allow him to utilize his experience with build-to-suit projects in the office, retail and industrial sectors.

“I’ve worked in a lot of different markets, on a lot of different product types,” Shaw tells GlobeSt.com. “I don’t know many people who can say that anymore.”

Shaw says his decision to depart Opus South—part of Minneapolis-based Opus Corp.—was planned well before the company’s relocation of its headquarters to Atlanta in March upon hiring Hunter Barrios as president and CEO. Opus South executives were unavailable to discuss Shaw’s departure, but a company spokeswoman says his successor in charge of the Tampa and Orlando offices will be named in the near future.

During his tenure with Opus South, Shaw oversaw several major developments including the 4200 Cypress office building in Tampa, Maitland Promenade Two offices in Orlando and ConAgra Foods’ distribution center in Atlanta. The company’s current projects in Florida include the 107,200-sf Tampa Oaks II office building near Interstate 75 in Tampa, the Shoppes of Gulf Coast in Fort Myers, Water’s Edge condominium tower in Clearwater and the 400 Beach Drive condo/retail project in St. Petersburg.

Shaw’s professional affiliations include the International Council of Shopping Centers, the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties and the Florida Economic Development Council, and he also serves as a member of Real Estate Florida magazine’s editorial advisory board. He has a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Central Florida and a master’s degree in economics from the University of Florida.
