PLYMOUTH MEETING, PA-Sonic Restaurants has engaged locally-based Fameco Real Estate as exclusive tenant representative to scout locations for a planned expansion of the 3,400-unit chain into northeastern Pennsylvania. Fameco’s Rick Schuch and Jed Masloff will head the leasing team searching for pads in power centers in densely populated areas with good highway access throughout Luzerne, Monroe and Lackawanna Counties.

A spokeswoman for Fameco tells GlobeSt.com the tri-county area is new territory for Sonic, and the burger franchise chain is leaving its options open as to the number of units it builds in these markets. In a news release, Brandon Famous, Fameco’s founder and CEO, says Sonic is the largest chain of drive-in restaurants in the US and is considered “tops in its field.”

At present, Sonic has seven Pennsylvania locations, including four in the Harrisburg area and three in the Pittsburgh market, according to its website. All are at least an hour’s drive from the tri-county area. The Oklahoma City-based company has operated under the Sonic brand name since 1959 and serves more than a million customers nationwide daily, according to a news release from Sonic.

In other news, Fameco, which specializes in the retail sector, earlier this week represented a 46,720-sf lease for Best Buy and a 36,000-sf lease for Christmas Tree Shops, both at Ashbridge Square in Downingtown. Famous says three store opportunities remain available at the 376,489-sf power center, which is anchored by Home Depot, Staples and JoAnn Fabrics.
