WASHINGTON, DC-Mayor Adrian Fenty’s administration is in the process of underwriting some 11 development and redevelopment projects underway that will deliver 710 affordable housing units to the city. All together, $25 million in local and federal funding is being allocated to these 11 projects.

The 11 projects, which are located Wards 1,4,5,7, and 8, were selected by the District’s Department of Housing and Community Development through a competitive bid process to apply for funding assistance. They include rental, senior housing and for-sale homes as well as about 100 units of permanent housing for the homeless. They will also comply with DC’s green building standards.

Additional affordable housing could be entering DC’s supply as well: the District is also issuing a solicitation to redevelop three properties one block north of the Georgia Avenue-Petworth metro station into a mix of retail and housing. Essentially empty storefronts and vacant lots, they are located at 3813, 3815 and 3825-29 Georgia Ave. NW; with 3813 and 3815 able to be treated as a single development opportunity. DC would like to have on board one or two development partners for the project, according to Mayor Adrian Fenty’s office. Responses to the solicitation will be due this summer. Winning bidders will be selected early this fall.
