NEWPORT BEACH, CA-CBRE Richard Ellis has named company and industry veteran Barry Katz to head the Los Angeles-based company’s western division for asset services, succeeding Dave Pogue, who recently was named to head CBRE’s national sustainability efforts. Katz, who formerly was managing director of asset services for the western division, steps into his new role with the title of senior managing director of asset services for the western division.

Katz will oversee approximately 265 million sf of space under management in Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange County, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Portland, Sacramento, San Francisco, Denver, Hawaii, Seattle, Salt Lake City, Albuquerque, and Fresno. He will also be responsible for new business development and marketing the entire CBRE service platform including capital markets, agency leasing, project management, facilities management and other services for clients, notes Tony Long, president of asset services for CBRE.

Katz has been managing director of asset services for Orange County for the past 11 years. During that time he was responsible for more than tripling CBRE’s managed space in the region to more than 61 million sf.

The new senior managing director is a 29-year real estate industry veteran who began his career as a broker focusing on investment properties before switching into asset services. During his time with CBRE, he also spent several years overseeing the Orange County Region’s office specialty brokerage practice; for the past year, he has had responsibility for the region’s capital markets group and services integration initiatives.

Steve Swerdlow, president of CBRE’s western division, says that the new role reflects Katz’s experience and his role not only in asset services and brokerage but also in CBRE’s overall effort to integrate its services for the company’s clients.
