FORT LAUDERDALE, FL-The Galleria at Fort Lauderdale has taken steps to redesign part of the mall after Saks Fifth Avenue announced last week that they were closing a 73,000-sf store there. The store was not meeting company profitability standards, a Saks Inc. spokesperson told GlobeSt.com, and will close July 20.

“With the future closing of Saks Fifth Avenue at our mall, we have a great opportunity to redesign our east wing,” Mark Trouba, general manager of the Galleria, said in a release. “Our past renovation yielded an unprecedented success so we are ready to take another step forward to further meet the shopping and dining wishes of our loyal customers.”

The million-sf Galleria, located at 2414 East Sunrise Blvd., underwent a multimillion-dollar renovation that was completed in 2004. Mall owners are currently working with architects to reshape the soon-to-be vacant Saks space, possibly turning it from an anchor store into multiple, smaller shops to suit shoppers’ needs. The mall’s current anchors include Macy’s, Dillard’s and Neiman Marcus.

The mall is also announcing its newest opening of a Kate Spade store in a 2,430-sf space, adding to the mall’s top-producing stores such as Ann Taylor, Coach, Guess, J. Crew and Lucky Brand. The Galleria has also recently announced its newest restaurant addition, a 9,000-sf Truluck’s to open late this year. The fresh seafood restaurant will offer up to 100 wines, adding to the mall’s fine dining options, including Capital Grille, P.F. Chang’s China Bistro and Seasons 52.
